If you’re hearing unusual noise from your Pilates reformer carriage, don’t worry — it’s usually easy to diagnose and resolve. In most cases, the noise is caused by one of three main components: the rails, springs, or wheels.
Below is a detailed, step-by-step guide to help you identify the source of the noise and get your reformer running smoothly again.
🔧 1. Rails (Guide Track)
The rails, or guide tracks, are essential for smooth carriage movement. If the rails have dents, rust, or debris, they can cause friction and unwanted noise.
How to Check if the Rail Is the Issue:
-
Step 1: If possible, place the carriage onto a different reformer frame to see if the noise persists.
-
Step 2: Inspect the rail surface for any visible dents, scratches, or rust.
-
Step 3: Clean the rail thoroughly with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust or residue.
If the noise stops after trying a different frame or after cleaning, the rail is likely the cause and may require repair or replacement.

🔧 2. Springs
Springs that are misaligned, rusty, loose, or worn out can also create noise and cause uneven resistance.
How to Check the Springs:
-
Step 1: Unhook all springs from the reformer.
-
Step 2: Move the carriage without any springs attached to see if the noise is still present.
-
Step 3: Reattach springs one at a time, testing the carriage after each to isolate the problem.
-
Step 4: Record a video from underneath the carriage, showing the springs during movement. This will help our support team identify any issues with placement or wear.

🔧 3. Wheels
Even a single bent or misaligned wheel can cause the carriage to wobble, vibrate, or make noise. Fortunately, adjusting or replacing the wheels is usually a simple fix.
How to Check the Wheels:
-
Step 1: Watch the carriage as it moves slowly. Look for wobbling or uneven wheel rotation.
-
Step 2: Try to identify if one wheel is not aligned or is visibly damaged.
-
Step 3: Record a close-up video of the wheels while in motion, ideally from the side and underneath the carriage.
-
Step 4: If needed, we can send you a video tutorial on how to adjust or replace the wheels.
