3 Common Pilates Reformer Mistakes

Small corrections to your form and equipment setup can make your Pilates practice safer, more comfortable, and more effective.

1. Looking Up During Ab Work

Looking toward the ceiling can place unnecessary pressure on your neck and reduce your core engagement.

Correction: Keep your gaze toward your thighs and curl forward from your upper rib cage while keeping your neck long.

2. Pulling the Ropes

Pulling directly on the ropes when reaching for the straps can make the ropes uneven and affect your movement.

Correction: Grab only the handles or loops. Check that both ropes are the same length before starting.

3. Incorrect Jump Board Setup

A jump board that is not fully secured may move during your workout.

Correction: Loosen the knobs completely, slide the jump board directly into both inserts, tighten the knobs fully, and raise the footbar to support the board.

Safety reminder: Before every workout, check that the springs, ropes, footbar, and accessories are properly secured. Equipment setup may vary by model, so always follow your reformer’s instructions.
